Policies and Procedures
Policies and procedures help organisations to set up systems that can help them to:
. comply with current legal requirements
. do things more effectively and efficiently
. monitor what they do
. show potential funders and other stakeholder that they are a well run organisation.

There are some basic policies and procedures that every organisation should have and others that will depend on, for example:
. what type of organisation they are (e.g. association, company)
. the sector that they work in (e.g. care, health, children, young people, sport etc)
. the activities they are doing (e.g. sport, outdoor activities)
. the people that they work with (e.g. children, older people, people with disabilities)
. whether they employ staff and / or involve volunteers
. what legal compliance they7 have to meet (e.g. charity law, company law).

Some of the most common types of policy include:
Financial Management
Health and Safety
Equalities
Confidentiality
Data Protection
Complaints
Risk management
Child Protection
Disclosures
Recruiting and Managing Volunteers
Volunteers Expenses
Premises and Security
Use of Vehicles
User consultation policy
Employment

Developing your policies
There are lots of model policies that can be adapted for your organisation, so you don't have to write them all from scratch but it is important to make sure they do reflect what you are doing, and need to do, in your own circumstances.

You can ask similar organisations for copies of their policies to use as a starting point.

Available Help
We can help you to identify what policies you require, provide copies of model policies and help you to update your policies.
