As part of Volunteers’ Week 2023, we’re featuring a series of positive stories from our wonderful Falkirk District volunteers – today’s story comes from Jim, who wanted to spend the days of his retirement learning and creating.
“My name is Jim and I am 77 years old.
I volunteer with The Conservation Volunteers, which is based at the Jupiter Urban Wildlife Centre in Grangemouth.
I have been a volunteer for approximately 3 and half years, I was retired, and wanted something to help fill my time.
I have enjoyed my time primarily because of meeting other people with different skills and learning from them. Also working with the community and helping to create a better understanding of what we do at Jupiter Growing Together.
For all age groups, with whatever issues they might have, it is a place to go which gives you a purpose, where some people find they have a skill or talent they weren’t aware of.

I have made a lot of friends and learned some different skills.
There are a lot of benefits to volunteer work, because there are people out there who have a lot of skills, that could be passed on to other people.
Give it a try. Even if you think you don’t have any skills, that is not a requirement.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Jupiter.”
A massive thank you to Jim for highlighting many of the things that make volunteering so special.
