As part of our Volunteers’ Week 2022 celebrations, and keeping in line with the theme Year of Stories, we’re featuring a series of positive stories from our wonderful Falkirk volunteers – including one from our Young Volunteer of the Year, Hayden!
St. Mungo’s High School pupil Hayden has taken on some incredible volunteering opportunities.
As well as being a part of Allotmenteens and our 2022 Young Volunteer of the Year, Hayden took on a unique but tough cycling challenge for charity.
The challenge saw him join Edinburgh Bridge8 Hub to raise money for Bikes for Refugees Scotland, a charity supporting the resettlement of isolated and socio-economically disadvantaged refugees in Scotland through the provision of free bicycles. Hayden, alongside fourteen other young people, cycled a 214km trail across the full length of Portugal in just four days. The trail covered all types of terrain such as costal paths, single tracks, boardwalks, open rural roads, and stunning forests.
Inspired by record-holding cyclist Mark Beaumont and supported by Youth Scotland, Hayden completed his cycling challenge and helped to raise £2,985 for Bikes for Refugees Scotland.
Hayden’s outstanding commitment to volunteering means he will achieve his 500 hour Saltire Awards certificate.
We are very impressed and inspired by Hayden’s amazing achievements!
