Did you know that Community Councils are all made up of local volunteers?
There are active Community Councils across the Falkirk and District area, doing great work for their own local areas – you can find information about the Community Council in your community on the Falkirk Council website, and if your area is currently inactive you can also view the step-by-step guide to starting one! If you’d like to know more about the role, scope, rights and responsibilities of a Community Council, please visit the Scottish Government’s Community Council website.
Bonnybridge Community Council is one good example of what can be achieved when a group of committed local people come together like this. Have a read below about just some of their activities and projects that benefit the people of Bonnybridge!
Last year they provided bulbs for the pupils of Bonnybridge Primary School to plant in the Sunken Gardens – and they’re out in bloom beautifully this year!

Sandra and Heather have supported litter-picking volunteers in the High Bonnybridge area, by funding some equipment to make their tasks much easier and show their appreciation for the effort made to keep the Reilly Road, Broomhill Road and canal-side areas looking fantastic.
They helped 2 local young people to complete a community clean-up and achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Award!

They fundraise for local projects; these half-barrel planters (pictured below) were very kindly donated by a local business and have since been sold by the Community Council to raise money so they can complete a local gardening project! They also have an option for those who prefer to donate online: the Bonnybridge Community Council Justgiving page.

And we’re sorry to mention the C-word so early in the year, but we simply can’t miss out the bonny Bonnybridge Christmas lights, wholly supported by the Community Council’s fundraising efforts in 2020.

A huge well done to the volunteers on the Bonnybridge Community Council, and other local Community Councils, for all the great work that they do throughout the year!
