As part of Volunteers’ Week 2023, we’re featuring a series of positive stories from our wonderful Falkirk District volunteers – today’s story comes from Joe, who wanted to meet new people after moving to Scotland.
“My name is Joe and I volunteer with The Conservation Volunteers at Jupiter Urban Wildlife Centre with The Growing Together project.
Having moved to Scotland several years ago I had become cut off from friends and golf buddies and had very few male contacts here. My wife and family felt I needed to add to my social circle, and my daughter (who lives in Yorkshire) found the TCV at Jupiter on the internet.
Since joining almost a year ago, I have enjoyed the work, and the people are all very friendly, and as a result I feel more content and look forward to Wednesday mornings.”

An absolutely wonderful story from Joe about the ways volunteering can help your mental health, through making connections and keeping active.
