Anne was one of the main players in creating Meadowbank Car 4U, but her journey as a volunteer started before that.
“I started off my volunteering journey as a Volunteer Driver with the Scottish Ambulance Patient Transport Service in 2006 when I retired from working with Stirling Council.
“When the Ambulance Service decided to reduce the service that they provided and cut back on their use of volunteer drivers I decided to try to provide a transport service for cancer patients, similar to that provided by the Driving Force in Bonnybridge and Denny.”

“So, in 2016 Meadowbank Car 4U was born. We now have about 25 volunteer drivers providing a free, friendly hospital transport service for cancer patients who are registered with any of the medical groups in Meadowbank Health Centre in Polmont. I am now Chairwoman and one of five coordinators who plan journeys, matching up drivers’ availability with patients’ appointment times. It has been an amazing journey, emotional and heart rending at times but incredibly satisfying and heart-warming at others.”
